COACH REQUIREMENTS

1. 2026 Coaching Application (Required Annually)

When registering your player for the 2026 summer season, select the volunteer role to indicate your interest in coaching.

Steps to complete the volunteer role:

  1. Log into your account.
  2. Go to View Account → Volunteer Role (left-hand menu).
  3. Click Find Volunteer Roles and follow the steps provided.
Note: Even if you’ve already completed player registration, you can update your account to select the volunteer role. This step is required, as all coach communication comes from this volunteer contact list.

2. Volunteer Background Check & Abuse Awareness Training (Required Annually)

Coaches must submit a background check each year:

Abuse Awareness Training (SafeSport-Compliant)

  • Required by federal law under the “Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and SafeSport Authorization Act of 2017.”
  • Must be completed before assuming any coaching duties.
  • USA Baseball’s BASE Abuse Awareness Training is free, online, and takes roughly 30-45 minutes.
  • After completing, provide your certificate to the league official overseeing background checks.

3. USA Baseball Coaching Clinic Certificate (Required Every Other Year)

  • If completed for the 2025 season, you do not need to retake in 2026.
  • If not completed, access Level "A" Certification courses online:
  • Confident Baseball Coach
  • Abuse Awareness for Adults
  • Introduction to Pitch Smart
  • Basic First Aid
  • Code of Conduct (waiver to agree)
Email a screenshot or photo of your certificate(s) to info@fargoareasports.com.

Tentative in-person clinic dates:

  • 5-8U Coaches Clinic: TBD
  • 9-15U Coaches Clinic: TBD
Access to in-person clinics at The ATTIC is granted after completing other requirements.

4. Team Roster Submission (Optional)

  • Coaches may form their own team if players choose to join. Teams can remain together year-to-year.
  • Roster deadline: March 1
  • Minimum 6 players, maximum 12 players. FAS may add players to ensure all kids have a team.

5. Parent Meeting (Required)

  • Schedule a team parent meeting to discuss your coaching plan. Suggested topics:
  • Coaching philosophy & goals
  • Practice schedule
  • Player & parent expectations
  • 24-hour rule
  • Communication
  • Tournaments & GameChanger Team Manager

6. Reserving The ATTIC

  • Contact info@fargoareasports.com if you don’t have a Skedda account.
  • Each team may reserve:
  • 2 cages/week, no more than 2 weeks in advance
  • Additional time within 48 hours if available
  • Cages include 10'x10' fungo screen + L screen for back-to-back hitting

8. Coaches Meeting & Equipment Handout (Required)

  • Attendance is mandatory for equipment distribution, rules overview, and Q&A.
  • Dates TBD.

Practice Policy

  • Minimum: 1 practice per week
  • Practice days/times are coach-determined; coordinate with parents for best scheduling
  • Fields are first come, first serve; teams share space if multiple teams are present
