Rainout Policy
The Red River Valley League prioritizes the safety and enjoyment of our young athletes. Our rainout policy is designed to ensure that all participants are informed promptly about any cancellations or rescheduling due to inclement weather. We understand that weather conditions can change rapidly, and we are committed to keeping our community updated.
What happens if it rains?
In the event of rain, games may be canceled to ensure the safety of all participants. Weather conditions will be evaluated and a decision will be made no later than 4:00 PM.
If weather develops after 4:00 PM, the decision will be made on-site by the coaches and umpires when applicable.
How will I be notified?
Notifications regarding rainouts will be communicated through our website, social media channels (Facebook & X), and direct emails to registered coaches.
Will there be make-up games?
If a team has two or more canceled games due to snow, rain, or air quality, the following tentative makeup dates will apply:
May 18–May 31 cancellations:
First makeup date — Sunday, June 14
June 1–June 25 cancellations:
Second makeup date — Sunday, July 12
Examples
- One rainout in May and one in June → No makeup games scheduled
- Two rainouts (May 18–31) and two rainouts (June 1–25) → Makeup dates on June 14 and July 12
- Two rainouts (May 18–31) only → June 14 only
- Two rainouts (June 1–25) only → July 12 only
Additional Notes
- No cancellations occurring after June 25 will be made up.
- A scheduled bye during a rainout does not count as a rainout.
- Forfeited games do not count as rainouts.
- Games that are started but not completed do not count as rainouts.
- If a rainout occurs on a scheduled makeup date, the game will be canceled with no additional makeup date.
Makeup game guidelines
If a makeup date is needed on Sunday, June 14:
Ages 5–9U: A Google Form will be sent. Teams must complete the form to participate.
Ages 10–15U: Teams will automatically be added to the schedule. If a team cannot field enough players, a forfeit will be declared.
If a makeup date is needed on Sunday, July 12:
Ages 5–15U (All Ages): A Google Form will be sent. Teams must complete the form to participate.
The rainout schedule will aim to include one makeup game, ideally against the opponent from your second canceled game. However, this cannot be guaranteed and may vary based on availability and scheduling constraints.
Do the rainout dates count towards playoffs?
June 14:
Makeup games will count toward playoff standings for ages 10–15U only and will be added to the schedule automatically.
July 12:
Makeup games will not count toward playoff standings. A Google Form will be sent to teams to confirm participation.
Please be aware that there are no playoffs for ages 5–9U.
